Another fine selection. One thing that is evident to me, and perhaps I am biased, but Husker Du were operating on a whole other level than most other college oriented rock bands of the 80s. Really enjoyed the Classic Ruins; sounded a bit like solo Iggy to me. Walkabouts have a Dead Moon vibe to my ears; good stuff. Feelies were undoubtedly channeling Lou Reed. Gaye Bykers sound like MC5. Keep up the good work.
Byrnes
oh, one more thing...Swallow is a dead ringer for Mark Arm and Mudhoney.
I agree with you on all points, KB.
Swallow certainly reminds one of Mudhoney. Both were of the same area and era. There must’ve been something in the water in Seattle in the late ‘80s...
And, Husker Du were definitely something special, alright. Having two competing songwriting singers in a band is always a good thing... until it tears the band apart. It’s amazing hear how their abilities evolved over the course of the several years they were together.
Thank you for always sharing your thoughts on the music. It’s fun to find out which songs catch your ear! More good stuff to come...
Hello Tom D,
Glad to see you are still kicking out the jams during our great
pandemic. I thought that you should know that I have gone back
and listened to some of your earlier shows when I was needing some
tunes to kindle nostalgia for good memories from my youthful days
in Detroit. The newer posts are great, as usual, but I found the
earlier shows really connected me to good times. Thank you, and let's
see what comes next from your music vault! Was it Union
Carbide Productions that had an Alice in Chains vibe? Really dug that band.
Hey Big D. Good to hear from you! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Just got back from a visit to The Motor City. It’s looking better than ever! Had fun down by the river and just happened upon a band rockin’ out in Campus Martius Park in the middle of Woodward Avenue. They were great! They had a Detroit circa-1970 sound that really hit the spot. The music and the weather were perfect!
