Und Now for Something Completely Different...
For a long time now, I’ve been kicking around the idea of launching a new podcast series. I struggled to choose between two different music genres that I was interested in presenting — one genre that I’m quite familiar with, and another that’s not so familiar. I ultimately decided to explore the less-familiar genre: Krautrock.
The term Krautrock means different things to different people, but it’s generally accepted that it refers to a broad range of progressive music created in Germany in the late 1960s and 1970s. For the most part, Krautrock tended to be somewhat stylistically removed from the blues-based rock & roll typical of the time.
But, rather than struggle to find the words to describe Krautrock, I say: Let the music do the talking! Let’s just dive in and hear what Krautrock was all about.
Be forewarned: This isn’t going to be toe-tapping good-time music. Some of this stuff is really out there! It’s probably more appropriate for late-night headphone listening — rather than something you’ll want to blast out of your boombox at the next family barbecue.
I hope my regular listeners will be adventurous enough to join me on this musical excursion. Being who I am, you know I’ll probably emphasize the rock part of the Kraut+rock equation, but I do intend to probe the experimental boundaries of the genre as well.
The first new podcasts are in the works, so stay tuned!

Hello Fränk --- Thank you for your praise. And thank you for linking me. I just took a look at your blog and I see that I need to spend some time there exploring the music that you share. I dig "stoner fuckin' fuzz sludge drone doom" rock! I'm excited right now because next month I'm going see Kyuss perform in San Francisco... Garcia, Bjork, & Oliveri together again!
When are we in for more of this madness?
Hi there, Ross -- You'll be hearing a new Krautrock podcast in about 2 weeks from now... Definitely sometime before Christmas. Stay tuned and thanks for listening!
